Gen. Pace - head in the clouds
In case you did not yet catch this, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Pace publicly called gays and lesbians “immoral” in an interview with the Chicago Tribune today. You can read more about it on The Blend and The Frontlines. SLDN is encouraging us to contact Pace and tell him to apologize. I already did and will share my email below.
Dear General Pace,
I find your decision to single out gay and lesbian servicemembers in the press today as immoral to be fascinating. You seem to have no problem singling out gays and lesbians, yet I have not heard you utter a single word about the morality of lowering enlistment standards, accepting so-called moral wavers (for just about any moral infraction save being gay) or gang bangers using their military training against our law enforcement personnel after being discharged.
Frankly, Sir, the military is losing the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our wounded soldiers cannot get the medical care they need. Servicemembers suffering from post traumatic stress disorder are being discharged or returned to the war zone with no treatment. The military cannot maintain their recruiting numbers. Readiness is at an all-time low. As the nation’s senior soldier, should you not be spending your time on these issues rather than chasing the distracting “demon” of gays and lesbians?
In a secular country, with so many more pressing concerns facing the military, your comments have no place in the public discourse. If you cannot find it within your heart to apologize to the thousands of gays and lesbians who serve under your command, then you need to resign.
Sincerely,
WOM
